Edward was the Mayor of Shrewsbury, and one of the Impropriators of St. Chads, Shrewsbury.

"The family of Gosnell were formerly possessed of an Estate called COOMB in the County of Salop, but taking part with Cromwell on the Restoration of Charles their Estates were confiscated.
One of the family with the wreck of his property went to London and commenced business as a Silk Mercer. He had a Son who commenced business as a Wine Merchant, and having realised a fortune, went down into Shropshire and purchased a piece of land near Shrewsbury and there built Rossall.

His Son was brought up to the Bar, and being intimate with Lord Bath obtained from him a Grant for his life of Shrewsbury Castle which he repaired.

He was Mayor of Salop and married a Miss Knolles by whom he had five Sons and one Daughter named William, Edward, Knolles, Robert, Charles and Ann.

William was poisoned in the West Indies, but died at home unmarried. Edward died in consequence of the wounds received in a duel, also unmarried. Knolles was a Linen Draper in London and married a Miss Jane Keart Peyton by whom he had one Son Thomas Knolles, and three Daughters, Mary, Sarah and Jane.

Robert left one Son who lived in Haverford West. Charles lived in Preston where he died leaving one Son John.

The Gosnell who was the Son of the Builder of Rossall was one of the Impropriators of St. Chads, Salop."
